Ol' Crocodile Travel Fundraiser
Last year Alexandre Liagre of Ol Crocodile busked his way across Canada and hung out in Vancouver playing his accordion and singing on the streets. I heard him on the dock at the Illuminares Festival just before the police shut everything down. He had only sung about a half a song and everyone was transfixed, but the cops cut in, stopped the music in it's tracks and we were all herded out of the park like criminals.
It took me a long time to even find out his name and then longer to find him online. I eventually discovered that he is a key member of the vibrant street busking scene in Montreal. He has an originals band called Ol' Crocodile that celebrates the same ideals and homegrown politics of joyful rebellion that beat in the scrappy underground heart of the Accordion Noir Festival. And they really know how to make people dance. There was no question that Alexandre and his band should come to Vancouver for the festival this year.
And so I am asking for your support to help with the cost of getting the four members of Ol' Crocodile from Montreal to Vancouver. This is the first time the Accordion Noir festival has attempted to bring a band from out of town. We are already fundraising through grant applications to government and to corporate sponsors and have $700 allocated towards the travel costs so we are already on our way.
Please help with whatever you can as every little bit counts and things will add up quickly if many people contribute. We are using brown paper tickets to help us process credit card contributions (min $10). Because of the formatting of this site your support will be identified as a sliding scale ticket to the 'event' of this fundraising. There is a small fee charged by BPT but it is much less than the fees charged by formalized crowd-funding sites.
