Aoife O'Donovan and Kristen Andreassen
2013 saw the launch of Aoife O'Donovan's solo career, the culmination of a decade spent playing in the celebrated progressive string band, Crooked Still. Aoife is also known as a member of the folk noir trio Sometymes Why, and as the vocalist on the Grammy winning album The Goat Rodeo Sessions with Yo-Yo Ma, Chris Thile, Edgar Meyer and Stuart Duncan. The stunning versatility and appeal of her voice brought her to the attention of some of the most eminent names across roots, classical, bluegrass, and jazz and led to collaborations across a wide variety of genres with everyone from Alison Krauss to Dave Douglas. Aoife (pronounced "ee-fuh") steps to the fore with her debut solo album, 'Fossils,' produced by Tucker Martine (The Decemberists, My Morning Jacket, Tift Merritt).
"A singer of modest rusticity, but as sophisticated as they come." ~The New York Times
Songwriter Kristin Andreassen toured the world with Rounder Records' string band Uncle Earl, the "folk noir" singing trio Sometymes Why and the renowned traditional percussive dance ensemble Footworks before embarking on her solo career. Her debut album Kiss Me Hello kicks off with the song John Lennon Song Contest Grand Prize-winning "Crayola Doesn't Make a Color for Your Eyes," which made A Prairie Home Companion's "best of" rebroadcast when she performed on the show. Kristin has recorded albums of original and traditional music with producers John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Dirk Powell (Cold Mountain, Joan Baez) and Mark Schatz (Nickel Creek). Her new solo album Gondolier comes out this fall.
