--------------------------------------

The Psychotronic Film Society of Savannah (named 2014's Best Local Film Series by the readers of Connect Savannah) is EXTREMELY proud to present - for 2 shows only - the BRAND-NEW motion picture by iconic, visionary filmmaker and spiritual philosopher ALEJANDRO JODOROWSKY - whose one-of-a-kind, boundary-pushing career has recently been celebrated in the award-winning portrait JODOROWSKY'S DUNE (widely seen as a strong contender for Best Documentary at the next Academy Awards).

Based on the his own autobiography, this mesmerizing new movie was produced and directed by the 86-year-old artist, and is the first film he has made in 23 years. It was shot on the edge of the Chilean desert in the town of his birth, and offers a surreal interpretation of his unhappy and alienated childhood as part of an uprooted family.

The award-winning film boldly blends his personal history with metaphor, mythology and poetry, and reflects Jodorowsky's long-held belief that reality is not objective, but rather an elaborate "dance" created by our own imaginations.

Says the often inscrutable director, "Everything in the film is true, but it's explained with the language of art."

THE DANCE OF REALITY was a smash at major international film festivals and received thunderous standing ovations at both the South By Southwest and Cannes Film Fests.

In fact, one Paris film critic wrote of the film's reception at Cannes, "(It was) the longest standing ovation I have ever witnessed."

For those unfamiliar with Jodorowsky's artistic legacy, he began his career as a protege of famed mime Marcel Marceau, before abandoning mime to become a trendsetting actor and director of experimental and absurdist theater, and, eventually, graduating to avant-garde filmmaking.

His second independent film, 1970's EL TOPO (THE MOLE) was a daring psychedelic Western which uncompromisingly mixed both violence and sexuality with Eastern religious attitudes. Considered the "Original Midnight Movie," it was intentionally only screened at midnight, and became a cult sensation which ran every weekend for years on end at noteworthy cinemas worldwide.

Later Jodorowsky films such as 1973's THE HOLY MOUNTAIN and 1989's SANTA SANGRE continued to dazzle and bewilder shocked audiences with their spiritually inquisitive nature and graphic imagery - while earning critical raves.

With this unexpected return to feature filmmaking after a 23-year retirement, viewers can finally experience the rarest of opportunities - seeing a brand-new Jodorowsky film on the big screen!

THE FILM IS IN SPOKEN SPANISH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES.

What the critics are saying about THE DANCE OF REALITY:

"Something very close to a masterpiece."
  - A.O. Scott, The New York Times

"One of the most unforgettable films of this or any other year in recent memory."
  - Peter Sobczynski, RogerEbert.com

"Jodorowsky's first movie in 23 years, and the best thing he's done, film-wise, since THE HOLY MOUNTAIN."
  - Ignatiy Vishnevetsky, AV Club

"THE DANCE OF REALITY may be Alejandro Jodorowsky's best film, and certainly, in a filmography top-heavy with freak-show hyperbole and symbology stew, the one most invested in narrative meaning."
  - Michael Atkinson, Village Voice

"THE DANCE OF REALITY represents Jodorowsky in an accessible mode, telling a version of his life story in a way that will allow anyone who's never seen any of his work before to get a good sense of who he is and what he's all about."
  - Noel Murray, The Dissolve

"The film is a poem of ideas, a myth, a spectacle - and yet it never ceases to be a story, one with a beginning, a middle and an end.
  - Meredith Borders, Badass Digest

"Jodorowsky's first film in 23 years is a Fellini-esque voyage into his past. It's wild and messy, but also vibrantly creative, the work of a boundary-pushing artist who hasn't finished exploring."
  - T'Cha Dunlevy, Montreal Gazette
