Originally belonging to the Da Unzanno family, the key holders of Florence, the villa was built in 1428 and still to this day boasts the original doors, windows, family seals and several works of art. In the 1800 the villa came under the ownership of Eleonora Di Pazzi, rivals to the Medici family.
During the Victorian period Florence became a refuge for such English and American writers as D.H.Lawrence, Oscar Wilde, E.M Forster, Henry James, Radcliff Hall, and Lady Troubridge, amongst others, who drew upon the Florentine way of life to unleash their imaginations.
