Alexander Sung Piano Recital
Schumann intended the eight pieces of his Noveletten, Op. 21 (1838) to be performed as a group, though they are often successfully performed separately - Mr. Sung will be performing all eight pieces. These "tales of adventure," as the composer referred to them, provide a wholly representative example of the composer's keyboard style.

Message from Alexander Sung
"Imagine how these "Eight Short Stories" mirror the timeless fairy tale story of Beauty and the Beast. Robert Schumann, the "Father of Romance", composed a romantic and touching eight short love "stories" about the sweet but somewhat dramatic relationship between him and his beloved wife, Clara.
I will lead us through this story where the music from a great romantic composer meets the Beauty and the Beast.  Join me on this journey of love and dreams. See you at my concert..."
Alexander Sung, Piano

Mr. Sung began studying piano at age of four in Hong Kong.  After graduating from Pui Ching High School, he attended the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria and studied under Heinz Scholz, a student of Theodor Leschetizky (Carl Czerny's own student). While in Vienna, he studied under Richard Hauser, a student of Emil von Sauer (Franz Lizst's own student) and harpsichord under Isolde Ahlgrimm.
He first captured public attention in 1971 when, at age 24, he placed fifth in the International Harpsichord Competition in Brugge, Belgium. The following year he came in fourth in the International Johann Sebastian Bach Piano Competition in Leipzig, Germany.
Alexander Sung continues to flourish as a performer, mesmerizing audiences in Europe, the United States, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, and China with performances of Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, and Chopin.  He is also a devoted teacher to many successful young pianists.
Mr. Sung recently released five recordings:  Pleasure for the Soul, Harpsichord music of Mozart and a Part II & III (2 CD SET),  piano music of Serenity for the Soul,  Music of J. S. Bach, Romance for the Soul, Music of Schubert and Love Affairs for the Soul, Music of Brahms and Liszt.
