A documentary on the life of the late New York Dolls and Heartbreakers guitarist Johnny Thunders was the hard living rock n roller who hugely inspired glam-metal, punk and the music scene in general. Looking For Johnny is a 90 minute film that documents Thunders career from his beginnings to his tragic death in 1991. The film investigates the New York Dolls in the early 70s then punk in NYC and London with the Heartbreakers his later incarnations his music his battle with drugs and demise in a New Orleans hotel aged just 38. Director Danny Garcia (The Rise and Fall of The Clash) interviewed 50 of the people who were closest to Johnny in order to find the real man behind the myth. Interviewees include Sylvain Sylvain Kim Montenegro Lenny Kaye Walter Lure Billy Rath Bob Gruen Terry Chimes Peter Perrett Alan Vega three managers Marty Thau Lee Black Childers and Malcolm McLaren and many others.
