Join us for the Vermont premiere of "And Water Brings Tomorrow," a new documentary by Ashley Hunt on today's abolition movement through the lens of closing prisons, telling this story against the backdrop of climate forces that are changing our world. This screening, hosted by FreeHer VT and the Peace & Justice Center, will be followed by a facilitated discussion with the filmmaker and local organizers. Ticket sales will go to the Canteen Fund, a FreeHer VT effort that to fill the commissaries of our neighbors incarcerated at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility (CRCF) in South Burlington. Commissary funds are used to make phone calls, purchase letter writing supplies and postage, and buy food and hygiene items from the commissary.

ABOUT THE FILM
"And Water Brings Tomorrow" follows the Close California Prisons Campaign of the CURB coalition (Californians United for a Responsible Budget), an interfaith pilgrimage to close immigrant detention centers in the Southwest, and an effort to halt the building of a new prison in Appalachian coal country. Juxtaposed with portraits of prisons that have become museums, restorative justice centers, tourism hubs and anonymous ruins, the film is woven together with a poetic narration on what is reckoned with or erased in each prison's repurposing.

FILMMAKER BIO
Ashley Hunt is an artist and educator. Over the last 25 years, he has dedicated his socially-engaged art practice to documenting the expansion of the U.S. prison system and community resistance to it. While tracing the proliferation of prisons across the nation, Hunt also explores how people fail to see the extent of incarceration's impact.
