Event
Exponential Ensemble Season 15 opener
Essence Friday, September 26, 2025 - 7pm Marc A. Scorca Hall, New York City 330 7th Avenue, 7th floor
This program explores how a single musical idea can be transformed and shaped into a fascinating musical journey. We start this program with Valerie Coleman's "Red Clay & Mississippi Delta" showing off bluesy and virtuosic riffs, reminiscing of her musical heritage from the South. "The Light is the Same" by Reena Esmail is based on two ragas (or Indian scales) that are almost exactly the same but yet provide a flurry of contrasting colors and textures. The last two works by Elliot Carter and Gyorgy Ligeti are both sets of miniatures exploring in their own unique ways specific concepts of harmony, rhythm and phrasing.
