Remembrance!
For Memorial Day, Camerata California Chamber Chorus and Orchestra present a stirring program featuring the Requiem of Jose Mauricio Nunes Garcia, was composed in Brazil in 1816. Nunes Garcia was the leading classical era composer in the Americas. His moving Requiem, or mass for the dead, shows influences of Mozart's Requiem (he conducted the premier in the Americas in 1819), while also exhibiting more Romantic tendencies that might point the way to Verd.
The Requiem will be paired with selections from James DeMar's American Requiem and other works to create a program of great meaning, as we remember those who have served our nation.
