A Night at La Nacional
Manhattans Newest Monthly Arthouse Film and Arts Event, A Night at La Nacional, Returns to Historic Community Venue on West Fourteenth Street (May 28th)

DATE & TIME: Wed. May 28, 2025 5:30 pm- 11pm
VENUE: La Nacional  239 West 14th Street (MANHATTAN)

New York, New York. May 5, 2025.  Downtown Manhattan welcomes back the standout monthly film/arts event recently launched in April, A Night at La Nacional, with its worldly mix of contemporary arthouse, visual arts, performance, music and more in the great downtown tradition at the landmark venue of La Nacional (Spanish Benevolent Society) on West 14th Street. Produced in partnership with Bronx World Film, it offers filmmakers, performers, artists and communities a lively hub to share work, forge alliances and create fresh possibilities while drawing new patrons to La Nacional, one of the citys oldest non-profits and recently dubbed a hidden gem by the Daily News.

After a wildly successful launch that cast a spotlight on contemporary Spanish cinema, Mays marqueé brings us headliner short films icetea, Alessia Buiattis intimate futurist drama after its international festival run, and The Rise by actress/singer Laura Scaglia (SWI), both touching themes of personal relationships. The performance component brings us a mini-concert by Venezuelan bandora virtuoso, teacher and arts activist Mafer Bandola, original songs by Maximilian Kempf and an excerpt from a play by Nancy Finn with Elizabeth Caruso and Eva Sorel. Our guest visual artist Dr. Narengy will fill the gallery walls with her cartoon drawings of goofy, whimsical and silly monsters. Doors open at 5:30 for the mixer and exhibit, performances at 6:30, the film screening at 8 followed by a Q & A, and an after-party and mixer. Bronx World Film and La Nacional welcome one and all to an event, a venue and company that you will not want to leave.

Admission to A Night at La Nacional is Free., Donations Accepted.

Limit(less) (SCR/DIR Karolina Bieszczad-Stie, NORWAY, March 2023, color, 16:00. Dance Film). A short art film, portraying a poetic vision of intimacy between a human and a robot. The film imagines a non-dystopian future through a dance duet, in which humans and robots fuse in their tasks, becoming a new type of species. This vision challenges a common perception of technology as a threat to human relations and instead addresses new social questions that appear: How would genderless biological and non-biological bodies experience each other? How would they merge in their intentions and intuitions? What would their post-verbal communication be like?

Behind This Page But Not Vanishing (SCR/DIR Angelina Voskopoulou, GREECE, 2015, color, 7:00. Experimental). This short delves into the concept of "minimal movement," exploring the profound internal dynamics that exist beneath stillness. Rather than focusing on overt physical action, it emphasizes internal intensitiesemotions, conflicts, and contemplationsthat persist even in apparent inactivity.
