Pawn Shop Soul
A local favorite of soul and funk fans, Pawn Shop Soul is delighted to kick off the year at Kuumbwa Jazz Center. With a new lineup that includes founding members, Pawn Shop Soul is ready to practice what they preach with two sets of vintage soul, funk, and Latin dance grooves. New tunes, new players, but the same great variety of danceable grooves!
Formed in 2013, Pawn Shop Soul found its roots in instrumental favorites from England's Northern Soul DJs. From there, inspiration comes from horn and organ bands of funk and soul jazz sound sphere. A natural cousin in line up and feel, Pawn Shop Soul pulls in a fist full of boogaloo tunes, and a bit of Ska and Afro beat. Featuring a four-horn frontline, this nine-piece band also venerates organ trio and Afro-Cuban influences.
