In this second concert of our 41st season, the Chorus partners with Newport High School of Bellevue to showcase womens musical creativity through the ages, featuring pieces by esteemed composers such as Fanny Mendelssohn, Hildegard von Bingen, and 20th century composers such as Alice Parker, Libby Larsen, Gwyneth Walker, and Emma Lou Diemer. Acknowledging additional barriers women of color endure, we perform works by Rosephanye Powell and Ysaye Barnwell. Modern compositions by Susan LaBarr, Abbie Betinis, Jocelyn Hagen, and Elaine Hagenberg are paired with our featured Northwest composer, Katerina Gimon, as the chorus presents a newly commissioned mixed-voice arrangement of her piece, Joy.
