Based in San Francisco since 1989, where they serve as Ensemble in Residence for San Francisco Performances, the quartet is renowned for its masterful interpretations of Beethoven, Mozart, and Shostakovich. Their recordings, particularly those of complete string quartet cycles, have earned international acclaim, solidifying their reputation as one of the most respected quartets in the classical music world.
The quartet's most recent project, "British Invasion," in collaboration with guitarist William Kanengiser, explores music by Sting, Led Zeppelin, and the Beatles, showcasing their versatility and innovative spirit. The Alexander String Quartet continues to make significant contributions to chamber music, both through their performances and their expansive recording catalog on the Foghorn Classics label.
