Event
Pregnant In America - Twin Cities Screening
Pregnant in America is a documentary made by filmmaker Steve Buonagurio, who was trained as a sociologist and teacher. When Steve's wife Mandy became pregnant, he immediately saw that something was wrong with the way women were being treated in the American maternity system. He was inspired to create a movie to help educate families and spark some much-needed change.
Their encounters with U.S. hospitals, insurance companies and medical organizations provide a valuable education about a broken system in great need of repair. Steve's journey, and birth stories shared by a variety of mothers, bring into sharp focus the importance for both MEN and WOMEN to educate themselves - preferably long before they are ready to have children.
By learning the difference between evidence-based maternity care vs. standard American maternity care, and the medical model of birth vs. the midwifery model, birthing families will come to understand the symbiotic mother-baby connection and be EMPOWERED to make choices that will best support and nurture it.
