Kalamazoo, Michigan is a community nestled in the heart of Southwestern Michigan-- the part of the state everyone tries to forget exists. A town of Dioxin-laced groundwater, pickup trucks, scraggly handlebar mustaches, flags flying and a seemingly inexhaustible supply of people named Bob, fully 50% of whom are mechanics.... A town of cops. A town of churches.

It was here, improbably enough that the GOD BULLIES came into existence. It was 1986. Reagan was President, local fundamentalist churches were holding record burnings, and intelligent people were about as rare in Western Michigan as the dimetrodon and the passenger pigeon. Beneath the smiling veneer of the city's fake smalltown USA image, secret hate pulsed and breathed and bred. And by some alchemical process yet to be understood, the toxic mixture of elements comprising this civic shithole combined to create a mutual offspring called GOD BULLIES.

While Bob Seger reigned as king of the town's Kraco Car stereos, a new, potent brand of noise began to issue from the sewers that washed-out the remains of punk and new wave had slithered
into....something psychedelic, something psychotic, something gloriously, ferociously, poundingly sick. They played in warehouses, basements, vacant storefronts, around stage sets in a decrepit local theater, and in a disused boxing academy: strobes flashing, smoke billowing, high volume, sarcastic lyrics, gratuitously obscene stage antics. Far from not knowing what decency, refinement, subtlety, and taste were, the God Bullies knew and didn't care. No standard was inviolate, no line uncrossed, no scared cows left unroasted.

In a heavily "Christian" community, they routinely subjected religious iconography to hideous abuse; in a heavily "patriotic" community, they burned. spat on, puked on, tore up, and otherwise mutilated an endless procession of flags. But while the shock angle in and of itself been little to base a band on, the Bullies possessed a flair for showmanship and a distinctive song writing style that set them miles apart from the hordes of flatliner midwest punk/noise/whatever bands.

GOD BULLIES went on to do extensive touring in both the US and Europe, having done three European Tours; the biggest coined "The Ugly American Overkill Tour" co-headling with the band Helmet. Bullies have shared the stage with such bands as Hole, Butthole Surfers, Tar, Helios Creed, Halo of Flies, The Cows, Wayne Kramer, Boss Hog, No Means No and Nirvana just to name a few.

The band has a total of five full length albums and several 7" inches, the majority released on Amphetamine Reptile Records and "Kill the King" released on Jello Biafra's Alternative Tentacles.
After a long hiatus, several lineup changes throughout the years and the death of guitarist David B Livingstone, frontman Mike Hard along with guitarist Scott Kodrik who also played in many God Bullies performances throughout the years have reformed the band.

Hard and Kodrik have been releasing an impressive track record of music since 1989 in the bands Hand Over Head, Thrall and The Brain Saw. The new GOD BULLIES line up is Mike Hard, Scott Kodrik, Pat O'Harris and Cliff Carinci, also all members of the touring band THRALL (Alternative Tentacles/Reptilian Records).

GOD BULLIES just got out of Steve Albini's Electrical Audio in April recording the Bullies 6th full length album, "As Above, So Below" which is set for a September 2024 release on Reptilian Records. GOD BULLIES have announced US touring starting Oct 11, 2024 followed by a European tour in 2025.
