Event
Powerlands documentary film screening
Special showing of award-winning documentary Powerlands, followed by virtual Q&A with the director and producer, will be held at 4 pm on June 16 at Memorial Hall in Shelburne Falls as a fundraiser for 2 local Indigenous-led non-profits: Native Land Conservancy and No Loose Braids.
Filmed over 7 years on 3 continents, director Ivey-Camille Manybeads Tso, a young queer Navajo woman, tracks the forced relocation of Indigenous communities and the pollution of their land by international extractive corporations and the powerful Indigenous matriarch-led resistance to protect their land.
Native Land Conservancy focuses on land rescue through donation or title purchase, upholding conservation easements, and tending to its needs; and cultural preservation. No Loose Braids is a Nipmuc-led organization focused on continuing and reviving Eastern Woodlands traditions and cultural practices.
Doors open at 3 pm; program begins at 4. For more information email Info@FriendsOfNLCNLB.org.
