The Treatment Works team was assembled in early February 2011, with bids received May 6, 2011. After funding was approved in June 2012 the design team provided construction administration services through completion of construction in December 2013.

The Treatment Works features 3 unique technologies in their first ever application for municipal wastewater treatment. The SAF removes solids with a process previously used only in industry. Fuzzy Filters are deployed for the first time to filter pond effluent. The pasteurization system is the first in the world employed to disinfect wastewater effluent.

Before the $8.25 MM Treatment Works could be implemented the Flood Works had to be constructed to protect the facility from a repeat of the January 1, 2006 disaster.  This project too was designed by a team of your fellow RECSI Members.

Bauer Associates, Geotechnical Engineer

Design work was completed and bid out by January 2008.  Lescure Engineers conducted pilot testing of the SAF and Fuzzy Filter in June 2006, then managed the treatment ponds dredging in September 2007 to remove flood debris.  Construction finally commenced in September 2009 following Lescure's application and two appeals to FEMA on behalf of GCSD for approval of funding for the disaster remediation and mitigation. Mitigation measures consist of a  mile concrete flood wall, 500 feet of earth-fill dike, and a stormwater detention system.

KG Walters Construction of Santa Rosa was the General Contractor for both the Flood Works and Treatment Works projects. Engelke Construction of Healdsburg performed excavation and grading. Mike Brown Electric was the electrical contractor for the Treatment Works.
