MacBóchra
The word seanchas in the Irish language refers to the ancient histories, laws,
traditions, geneologies and lore of Ireland. It is this vast wealth of tradition and
storytelling that MacBóchra shapes into new bilingual music, poetry and dance.
MacBóchra consists of Ulster born singer and lyricist Brendan Duffin,
multiinstrumentalist Brian Sheehan, award winning file and sean nós singer
Gormfhlaith Ní Shíocháin Ní Bheoláin and hammer dulcimer player Brian Leach who
currently features on the latest album of folk singer Lisa O'Neill.
We take our name from the shape shifting salmon, eagle, hawk and oldest
seanchaí Fintan mac Bóchra . Our band explores tradition as a creative and
regenerative force, living on and remembered in different forms....a shared journey
with our audience

The Choke Collective are a Cork-based act who love to experiment, comprised of Ciarán MacArtain, Michau Weber, Mariusz Pasek and Jorge Kachmari. They were founded as performance art collective and produced Tumbling Birds for Obheals Winter Warmer Festival. The piece featured performative adaptations of the poetry of Polish nobel-prize winner, Wisawa Szymborska and showcased the sound-art of her countrymen, Michau Weber, as well as the foursomes own poetry, theatre making and songwriting. They toured the piece extensively around the city and country. Since then, The Choke Collective have grown into a four-piece band with multi-national members from a variety of musical backgrounds. Combining software generated beats, melodies with saxophone, live synths, effect processors and the jaw harp, they consistently deliver an unconventional and unique mixture of sounds - brought together by the spoken word, asking questions about the world around us, the state of politics and social injustice. They made their debut release, Gag Reflex, in August 2023 and are excited to be working on their second album. They are founders and co-hosts of Only Your Footprints Festival.
