Sierra Master Chorale Spring Concert
The new Sierra Master Chorale premiered with two sold-out holiday concerts last December. The response was overwhelmingly positive, excited, and eager to hear more! This season the Sierra Master Chorale will explore the choral literature of the a cappella style. Our journey will begin at the cathedral of St. Mark in Venice circa 1600 A. D. with the music of Giovanni Gabrieli. From there we experience the music of more great composers of choral music over the centuries - Orlando di Lassus, Charles Villiers Stanford, Max Reger, Rene Clausen, Eric Whitacre - with serious and inspiring works encompassing both sacred and secular themes.
After an intermission to catch our breath, we will shift to lighter music from some of the wonderful composers and arrangers of modern times - Jester Hairston, Darmon Meader, Moses Hogan, Jack Halloran, Gwyneth Walker - spanning the genres of jazz, folk and popular music, and ending with three of the finest spirituals in the literature.
