Pie Ranch Benefit /King Corn at the Red Vic Movie House
Movie Night with Pie Ranch : King Corn Movie Night with Pie Ranch, an urban, community-building event co-hosted by Pie Ranch and the Red Vic Movie House, will take place April 7, 2009 at the Red Vic. All ticket proceeds will benefit Pie Ranch, a thriving, hands-on farm and food system education center on Highway 1 near Pescadero, California. Situated on the San Mateo Coast, half-way between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz, Pie Ranch inspires and connects rural and urban people to grow and nourish healthy communities. The movie, Independent Lens documentary King Corn, tells the story of two college friends as they plant an acre of corn and follow that corn from seed to dinner plate. The two friends respectful humor and authentic family roots to the growing region form the backdrop for the compelling story they tell about the role of corn in the American diet. The audience will be able to sit in the iconic Red Vic theatre and munch on popcorn grown and dried only 50 miles away at Pie Ranch. Local restaurant-pub-brewery favorites, Alembic and Magnolia, will provide hand-crafted beers and the Pie Ranch Board will host a wine bar. Guests are invited to arrive before screening time to visit the backyard urban garden, the newest site for Pie Ranch youth internships. Fresh produce and herbs grown in this garden will head to the kitchens of Alembic and Magnolia. Please stay after the film to join us for conversation and a short video about Pie Ranch.
