New York Film Critics Series Screening
Starting in January, the Lyric will be hosting monthly screenings of some of best upcoming, unreleased movies independent cinema has to offer. Each screening includes a special half hour preshow hosted by Alison Bailes, film critic for NBC's "Today Show" and contributing critic to "Ebert Presents at the Movies" on PBS. Then, after the movie there is a Q&A and discussion with the stars or directors of each film hosted by Peter Travers (THE Peter Travers!). Notable movies screened in the past include American Hustle, 20 Feet From Stardom, Silver Linings Playbook, The Sessions, Anna Karenina, The Artist, Beasts of the Southern Wild, 127 Hours, The Kings Speech, The Descendants, Margin Call, Slumdog Millionaire, Sideways, Up in the Air, Black Swan, and The Impossible. If reading that list made your eyes pop, the New York Film Critics Series is going to have to become a monthly event for you.
To gain admission to these events, you must become a member of the NYFCS Club. You can buy a single screening membership, a three screening membership (good for three NYFCS screenings over six months), or join the Lyric's membership program for a whole year to enjoy other perks like a dollar off glasses of beer and wine. Each member must also provide us with their email address so we can keep them up-to-date on the latest happenings with the New York Film Critics Series and at the Lyric!
