Based in Boulder, Communikey works with a global community of new media artists and electronic musicians that represent the forefront of an emerging micro-economy. Communikey events provide a creative forum for the North American arts community to explore forward thinking electronic music and new media arts in an intimate setting while gaining exposure to the global organism that is new electronic music.

Held on Earth Day weekend, Communikey Festival provides tools for renewableresources in a digital world. Implementing a zero waste program and encouraging pedestrian and cyclist modes of transportation, powering our outdoor event on bio-fuels, alongside our workshop for event organizers in how to create a sustainable event, Communikey Festival intends to marry electronic arts with sustainable lifestyle.

A full day of activities at the ATLAS Center include workshops in max/MSP, Isadora, Supercollider and Processing, as well as a very special sneak preview
screening of electronic music documentary "Speaking in Code", followed by surround performances in the ATLAS Black Box Theatre.

A variety of featured installations includes Prophoseeds, the flagship of the 2009 Festival, a participatory mobile unit traveling from each venue and showcase, planting seeds in each location while weaving a common thread throughout the festival weekend.

In partnership with the Dis-Patch Festival in Belgrade, Communikey hosts Lukatoyboy's children's program, manifesting in Boulder as Communikids. The program explores the musical aspect of the Nintendo DS game console with
commercial music software along with the Korg Kaoss pad, microphones, their own voices, and crafted instruments made from recycled materials. The children have a day of play with the equipment in a Communikids Workshop on Saturday April 18, followed by a Communikids Ensemble performance the following day.

Communikey is a member of the newly formed I.C.A.S., International Cities of Advanced Sound, a global network of independent non-profit organizations dedicated to advancing sound cultures, music and related arts. Unlike the mainstream music business, I.C.A.S. members adopt an alternative set of criteria to measure the success of their endeavors, which favors quality, critical reflection, innovation and exchange over profit. Reflecting on the aesthetic and societal agency of contemporary sound creation against a backdrop of the transformation processes induced by digital technology, they wish to raise awareness and support for experimental and experiential sound and music cultures.
