PEBCC Historical Concert 2014
The Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir goes back to the roots of its art when its advanced ensembles - Concert Choir, Ensemble, Ecco, and Ancora - sing scintillating works from the Baroque and Classical Eras with the period orchestra Jubilate. 'Missa Sancti Aloysii' by Johann Michael Haydn, Bach's 'Lobet den Herrn,' Purcell's 'Sound the Trumpet,' a rarely heard Durante 'Magnificat,' and selections from the haunting Pergolesi 'Stabat Mater' are some of the pieces on the program. Artistic Directory Robert Geary will conduct a special reunion of PEBCC alumni as a part of this stylish and celebratory musical event.
Johann Haydn and his more famous brother Joseph sang in the boy choir at St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna; this choir later became the world famous Vienna Boys Choir. Bach and the other composers whose works make up the Historical Concert also made their livings writing and performing music for and with children. If your boy or girl loves to sing, come to theHistorical Concert and hear how this ancient and still-vibrant tradition began.
