SPRING! A Wee Open Floor Day
SPRING!  A Wee Open Floor Day
Sunday 12 March  12 noon  4pm Kinning Park Complex, Glasgow

Celebrating the lengthening days and responding to the energies of new growth, Collective Endeavours and friends present SPRING!- A Wee Open Floor Day, a family-friendly afternoon of improvised music and movement workshops and performances. We share our approach to improvisation and collective decision making, opening it up to participants of all ages. There will be food and time for chat.

The event features a performance from special guest Ali Robertson and a ContaKids workshop led by Monika Smekot. Thi is a class for parents and children to develop trust and relationship through movement. Contakids is a methodology that pushes the idea of using physical contact to develop a deeper form of communication between parents and their children, that both will find enjoyable. By working with bodily movements, the child can enhance their motor skills and self-confidence, while the parents get to develop a bond of trust with their young ones.

SPRING!  A Wee Open Floor Day is an intergenerational community event, open to all ages from 1-100 (or beyond!). Workshops and performances throughout the day are open level, for a range of ages, experience and abilities to take part in. Contakids is a class aimed at parents and children.

This event will take place from 12 noon  4pm on Sunday 12 March at Kinning Park Complex, Glasgow. The event will be hosted across the Main Hall and kitchen on the Ground Floor.

Both entrances to KPC have ramp access and railing. There are two car parking spaces available, with priority given to anyone who requires them for accessibility.
The hall is fitted with a loops system and the fire alarm system is the BS5839 visual beacon.

We know many people struggle to meet basic bills and costs and we believe everyone should have access to events and performances irrespective of their financial situation so we are offering tickets at a range of prices for this event.
If cost is a barrier, affordable tickets are available starting from £0. If you are able to pay a little more, this money will go towards supporting Collective Endeavours with the next A Wee Open Floor Day event in Autumn and ensuring the artists involved are paid for their time, while keeping the costs lower for those who couldnt otherwise afford it. Collective Endeavours is an improvisation music/dance group started by The Work Room members Solène Weinachter and Jer Reid in 2010. The group meet regularly to develop rigorous methods and practices of improvisation for performance. Todays group will be Molly Danter, Bethany Edwards, Elena Inei, Aya Kobayashi, Hana Kobayashi-Michie, Dylan Read, Jer Reid and Alex South.

Ali Robertson is an Edinburgh-based improviser and organiser who, for more than twenty years, has often, but not exclusively, worked under the Giant Tank banner or in the duo Usurper to make hundreds of events and experimental recordings that exist on the periphery of music incorporating elements of composition, chance, performance, comedy, visual art and storytelling. Since 2018, Ali has been playing with Glasgow's inclusive new music group Sonic Bothy as a member of both their Ensemble and Learning Space programmes.

Monika Smekot is a Glasgow based dance and video artist curious about how the body can talk and hear and how the mind can be moved by bones and muscles.  Inspired by sustainability of creative process and a belief that we can learn and find answers by listening to what we already have. Monika is a mum of two children, she trained in Contakids with Itay Yatuv in 2019 and is currently teaching regular class in Southside.

SPRING!  A Wee Open Floor Day is supported with seed funding from The Work Rooms Beyond Fund. Beyond is a seed funding initiative, designed to help nurture and kick start artist led projects which connect more people to dance.
All money raised through ticket sales will go towards covering the remaining costs of putting on the event and supporting Collective Endeavours to put on more Wee open Floor Day events in future.
