Event
Ian Pounder at the St George's Church Organ
An afternoon concert featuring Mr Ian Pounder playing the St George's Binns organ. The event begins at 2.30 with light refreshments and follow at 3.30 by a recital of classical and popular pieces played on the 125 year old Binns organ in St George's.
Ian has been organist and choirmaster at St Hildas Church in Hartlepool for many years. His organ teachers included Conrad Eden, Russell Missin and Hector Parr, under whose guidance he achieved organ performing diplomas. A full time teaching career and involvement as musical director and accompanist for stage musicals and other entertainment left little time for organ playing elsewhere, but from time to time Ian has accepted invitations to play for services and recitals at several prestigious churches, and for Royal School of Church Music events. He is still involved in music education as an examiner and external moderator for Performance Skills and Music Technology. He also keeps busy with organ related electronics and computing, DIY, listening to music, reading and of course walking the dog (a lively standard Schnauzer). He is still interested in theatre lighting design but has given up climbing long ladders to set it up!
This concert is the first in a series of concerts every Sunday in Lent continuing on the 12th March.
