The Holly & The Ivy
On December 10 at 7:00PM the Oure Pleasure Singers present "The Holly & The Ivy," music for Advent. The program celebrates the circle of the year, as we descend into the solstice darkness and then kindle within ourselves a new light for the coming season. Christmas is a time of contradiction, of Holly "as white as any flower" yet bearing a bark "as bitter as any gall." We celebrate the innocence of a newborn babe in the manger while mindful of the act of sacrifice that will "redeem us all." Selections span seven centuries and include medieval and traditional English carols and marvelous contemporary compositions, all seamlessly woven into a whole by our conductor and artistic director, Nicholas Rocha.
