Light of Day: Dublin
The Light of Day Foundation, Inc., utilizes the power of music to raise money and awareness in its continuing battle to defeat Parkinsons disease and related illnesses such as PSP and ALS within our lifetime.
Since its inception in 2000, Light of Day has raised over $3 million in the fight to find a cure for Parkinsons disease. What began as a single concert in New Jersey has grown into approximately seventy shows in thirteen countries on 3 continents including North America, Europe and Australia!
Making Dublin their first pit stop of a 15 gig European Tour, Featured musicians this year include; Joe DUrso, Jeffrey Gaines, Rob Dye, Ben Arnold, and special Irish guest, Ben Reel.
***********
Joe DUrso: one of the founding members of the Light of Day organization, Joe fronts his own band Joe DUrso & the Stone Caravan, an Americana/Jersey Shore/Rock & Roll band, they released their 13th CD on SCR/Schoolhouse Records, titled "Sway" in January 2013.
Jeffrey Gaines: Gaines was one of the artists invited to contribute vocals to the benefit CD We are Family, produced by Nile Rodgers after the September 11, 2001 attacks. He has toured with artists including Paula Cole, Tori Amos, Tracy Chapman, Melissa Etheridge, Sting, Shawn Colvin, Edwin McCain, The Bacon Brothers, Joe Jackson and Stevie Nicks.
Rob Dye: Music has always been a part of New Jersey native Rob Dyes life. He logs over 150 shows a year, whether its as a duo or with a band playing covers along the Jersey Shore to touring the country and overseas. With feet firmly planted in the rich landscape of American musics roots, Dyes music incorporates elements of rock, old school country, Stax-influenced R&B, gospel and more while remaining true to the essence of each style.
Ben Arnold: Ben Arnold has toured throughout the United States and Europe with various line-ups both solo and with his rollicking live band. He has shared a stage with everyone from Ryan Adams, David Gray, Ben Folds and Lucinda Williams to Ron Sexsmith, Randy Newman, Martin Sexton, David Johanson, Jackson Browne, Amos Lee and even a strangely mysterious week in Holland with Townes Van Zandt in the last year of his life. His lyrics remind you of John Hiatt and he's been told he sings a bit like Randy Newman, but writes hooks like Springsteen used to do in the '80s. His songs explore strong emotions while his music draws on rock, folk, R&B and all genres in between. Ben is also a member of US Rails, which tours regularly in Europe and has released 5 of their own records to date
Ben Reel: Since his debut album `This Is the Movie back in 1999, Ben has reinvented himself from album to album, influenced by different styles of music over the years. As one critic said, " He's not afraid to throw in some in folk, soul, reggae vibes, which in turn call to mind John Hiatt at his best". Another describes him as somewhere in the middle ground between rock and jazz or a sound that is sometimes reminiscent of Dylan and the Band.
