The Putnam Chorale is back up to full strength, with 48 signers preparing to perform a program of Bach classics for you. The Welcome, Bach program features two Cantatas: Christ Lag in Todesbanden (BWV 4) and Wachet Auf, Ruft Uns die Stimme (BWV 140),
plus one Motet, Lobet den Herrn Alle Heiden (BWV 230). Together, they represent some of Bachs greatest compositions for the Lutheran church year.
Written as part of a series of over 150 cantatas compositions, the selected works in this program are soaring and uplifting. They are emblematic of Bachs great contributions to the canon of sacred music. You will be enthralled by the melodies, harmonies, and juxtaposition of repeating musical motifs. Bach wrote the cantatas at a punishing rate of one per week, recycling existing pieces and inventing new music.
If you havent yet heard a Cantata in concert, its time to do so now. The Welcome, Bach concert will be held on Sunday, December 4, at 3pm at the First United Methodist Church at 83 Main Street in Brewster. Order your tickets today for a wonderful start to your holiday season.
