Drag It Through the Garden - San Diego, CA
Classical music is for everyone. And Chicago's music scene is a rich community full to bursting with fresh ideas. So full, in fact, that the selections on this program are finally flooding the banks of the Mississippi and heading west to you.
You will be the first in the western states to enjoy the elastic, joyous fourth movement from Amy Wurtz's monumental La: Suite for Flute and Piano, Jonathan Hannau's lyrical perpetual motion piece I Watched the Leaves In the Wind, and Amos Gillespie's majestic five-movement suite Of Nature's Palette, which was written specifically for and dedicated to the flutist.
And while you will be the first in the western states to hear the first two movements of Seth Boustead's angular and playful Sonata for Flute and Piano, you will be the first in the world to hear the third and final movement, and thus the first in the world to enjoy this marvelous work in its entirety.
Finally, with the program's second world premiere, the next generation of composers makes an appearance by way of Liam Lupescu's Clockwork, selected from an array of pieces written by students of Access Contemporary Music in Chicago's Ravenswood neighborhood.
(OK, fine, one of the composers is from Colorado. But you'll just have to come find out why the piece just had to be on the program!)
The program is roughly an hour in duration, and all are warmly invited.
All donations help to offset the cost of production and not to line the pockets of the performers, but for those for whom every extra dollar is an extravagance, please attend as our guests.
