St George's Film Club - Florence Foster Jenkins
Our next film club in the beautiful setting of St George's Church will be a screening of 'Florence Foster Jenkins', the story of a New York heiress who dreamed of becoming an opera singer, despite having a terrible singing voice.
Florence Foster Jenkins is a 2016 biographical film directed by Stephen Frears. It stars Meryl Streep as Florence Foster Jenkins, a New York heiress known for her generosity and poor singing. Hugh Grant plays her manager and long-time companion, St. Clair Bayfield.
At the 89th Academy Awards, it was nominated for Best Costume Design and earned Streep her 20th nomination for Best Actress. It received four Golden Globe nominations, including Best Picture.
Doors will open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start, and we'll be serving great snacks, homemade cakes, hot and cold drinks, wine and beer throughout the evening.
