Eating Rocks For Hunger
"Eating Rocks For Hunger" is an original dance piece premiering at The Miles Memorial Playhouse in Santa Monica. The project has been created by Voices Carry a production company headed by artistic director Madeline Leavitt with the collaboration of choreographers Paula Present and Marie Bergenholtz.
From courage and hope comes our will to survive. The piece explores how the human spirit gathers strength when faced with personal and global survival. Inspiration came from a newspaper article about a ballet school in Iraq that continues to teach children despite the ongoing war. The personal story of a woman dancing through the hallways of a hospital in order to face her battle with cancer - add to the mix: buckets, a pile of shoes and a mound of dirt and you will have an evening that weaves the tragic with the poetic .
