Juana Molina at the Nightlight Lounge
BELLINGHAM Sound Culture presents Domino Records artist Juana Molina at The Nightlight Lounge (211 E. Chestnut St.) on Monday Feb. 9, 2009.
Juana Molina has long been known as one of Argentina's most beloved comedic actresses, but her worldwide reputation as a songwriter and musician has steadily grown over the past decade.
Molina combines intoxicating acoustic guitar and vocal settings with looping pedals, synthesizers, and other electronic textures; and has been compared by critics to Bjrk, Beth Orton, and Lisa Germano. Her songs, most of which are sung in Spanish, are by turns haunting and energetic with a wide emotional palette on display. Molina's most recent album "Un Dia" was released to critical acclaim on Domino Records in October 2008.
"I think Juana's music has a broad appeal and she will enamor many who come to see and hear her perform." according to Sound Culture co-founder and WWU music professor Bruce Hamilton. "We hope to see a diverse group of folk music, world music, electronica, and indie pop fans at the show."
Also on the bill are well-respected local artists Kristin Allen-Zito and Jenni Potts & the Twitterpated, both with new recordings on Clickpop Records.
Sound Culture is a recently-formed organization that exists to support new music and sound art in the greater Bellingham region. This inaugural event is being organized in collaboration with the Bellingham Electronic Arts Festival, Boogie Universal, Bayside Recording, and Clickpop Records.
