SRBCC Presents: Abolition of Slavery Concert: Tribute to Women Dancers
Since the late 1980s, the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center (SRBCC) has organized this fundraising concert to showcase Afro-Puerto Rican arts, and to recognize outstanding community members and artists. The concert is part of a series of events commemorating the abolition of slavery in Puerto Rico.
The 2009 concert to be held on March 20th, will be dedicated to La Bailadora de Bomba (the female bomba dancer). Bomba is a rhythm-based musical genre with ties to the Afro-Puerto Rican heritage. Nandi, the only all-female bomba percussion group from Puerto Rico, will perform. There will be an awards ceremony.
The Abolition of Slavery Concert is an annual fundraiser event to benefit the Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center (SRBCC). SRBCC is a 501C3 non-profit organization whose purpose is to preserve and promote appreciation of the culture and arts of Puerto Rico, specifically its African heritage.
