The Cinema is proud to present a night of films by Max Linder, one of silent cinema's greatest talentsa man whom Charlie Chaplin called "the master." Linder was, quite simply, the screen's first international comedy star. At a time when most comedies could be described as simply a wild display of conventional vulgarity, Linder brought a delightful elegance to the silver screen that made him a star throughout the world. Perhaps the greatest feature in Linder's rich filmography, Seven Years of Bad Luck is a showcase for his talents as a comedian and filmmaker. When a drunken evening of carousing results in a shattered mirror, Max tries to head common wisdom and avoid his seven-year sentence. Of course, his attempts to avoid misfortunate at all costs inadvertently invite more of it upon him.(USA, 1921, 62 min., B&W, DCP)
