Montana Slim Stringband (MSSB) is an emerging progressive stringband from San Francisco. Built upon invigorating live performances, peppered with dueling melodic fiddle, mandolin and acoustic guitar improvisation. Passionate vocal harmonies, reflective lyrical tales and solid foundational bass rhythms can all be found in MSSBs original youthful interpretation of bluegrass. The Bluegrass Revolution is a hard driving stringband based out of Oakland, Calif. Coming from varied musical backgrounds, members of The Revolution blend hints of bluegrass, alt-country, gypsy jazz, blues and progressive acoustic music all with the traditional sounds of the acoustic guitar, fiddle, mandolin and upright bass. More familiar with the Decemberists than Bill Monroe, with firmer allegiance to Nirvana than Flatt and Scruggs, the Deciders are doing their best to reconcile these polarities. On the surface, the Deciders are a bluegrass band. However, youll find no (sincere) references to the high lonesome sound here; rather, fascinations with gentrification, fashion, pornography and pop culture abound.
