Dogtown Dance Theater (109 W 15th St, Richmond, VA 23224)) is this year's place to be to ring in the New Year properly. The main attraction is Rattlemouth, Richmond's leading purveyors of global music. Featuring the incandescent saxophones of Danny Finney, Constance Sisk on tripped-out electric cello, guitarist George M Lowe, and the monster rhythm section of Robbie Kinter (drums) and Wayne O'Bryan (bass), they blaze through classic tunes from Zimbabwe, South Africa, Cuba, Turkey, Nigeria, Lebanon, Ethiopia and more; exotic and hypnotic grooves that will compel everyone to Dogtown's spacious dance floor. Opening act Lobo Marino, comprised of multi-instrumentalists and vocalists Laney Sullivan and Jameson Price, will kick things off with their infectious mix of tribal, folk and world music. Says Cheats Movement blog: "It's a dope groove and every song takes you to a different place. I loved it and can't wait to see them again." Also on the bill are Aerial artists Host of Sparrows, Magician/Juggler/Comedian Extraordinaire Jonathan Austin, and more. There will be a cash bar and the highly acclaimed Phoenix Garden Vegetarian Restaurant will be on hand with fabulous food. Come early and enjoy a delicious meal before dancing in the New Year. If all that isn't enough, between 9 and 11 you can relax with a free 10 minute chair massage from certified massage therapist Rob Crampton of James River MFR! Doors open at 9 pm. The show begins at 9:30 and will conclude at 1 am. Ticket price is $15 in advance or $20 at the door and includes a champagne toast at midnight. Ample parking is available in the lot across the street.
Partial proceeds go to benefit the non-profit Dogtown Dance Theater.
