Stairway of the Stars BAND Night Concert TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11th, 2014
For 65 years, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District has produced an annual musical extravaganza to share the outstanding music education programs in the district with the community that provides much of the support. The district's excellent music programs are featured in three nights of concerts called "Stairway of the Stars" at Santa Monica High School's historic Barnum Hall auditorium. The Tuesday, February 11th evening program is a BAND NIGHT ONLY consisting of an Elementary Honor Band and Middle and High School Bands.
ONLY ELEMENTARY HONOR BAND GROUPS, AND MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL BANDS WILL PERFORM TUESDAY EVENING.
Elementary, Middle, and High School Choirs will perform on Friday, February 7th only.
Elementary, Middle, and High School Orchestras will perform on Thursday, February 13th only.
Over the three nights, there are approximately 1,000 student performers involved in the Stairway concerts. The 2014 concert will actually be the 65th Annual Stairway-of-the-Stars!
This year, the concerts will take place on February 7th (CHOIR), 11th (BAND) and 13th (ORCHESTRA), from 7:00 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m. The concert will be held this year in Barnum Hall on the Santa Monica High School campus. Each year, a guest conductor is featured to work with the district's students and this year, Dr. Tom Lee will be the guest conductor for our bands. The 2014 Stairway Honor Award Recipient will be the Beasley family. Before passing away in 2010, Lida Beasley was a legendary orchestra and band teacher at John Adams Middle School and Samohi for many years, and her husband Rule is a composer and former director of the Santa Monica College Orchestra program. Rule and Lida have two sons, John and Paul, and two grandchildren, Justin and Sierra. Paul is an attorney in Oregon, and John is an internationally renowned jazz pianist, composer and recording artist.

Stairway online advance ticket sales are available exclusively to families of students performing in Stairway from 7am on Monday, January 13th to 7pm on Sunday, January 26th. Each student performer may purchase up to three (3) tickets during the online advance ticket sales period with their student ID code, for the night of their performance ONLY, on a FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS. Families with more than one student performing may purchase up to three (3) tickets per performing student for each night the student is performing only.
When the advance purchase period ends, remaining tickets will be available to the public during an online FLASH SALE from 12:01am on Monday, January 27th to 11:59pm on Friday, January 31st. During the FLASH SALE, anyone may buy an UNLIMITED number of tickets for any and all Stairway concert nights, on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no reserved seating in Barnum Hall, and tickets purchased during the flash sale (Jan. 27-31) have the same value as tickets purchased during the online advance period (Jan. 13-26).
Any remaining tickets will be made available to the general public starting at 5:30 p.m. at the Barnum Hall box office on each event night. Tickets will be sold each evening at the box office only for that evening's performance. Thus, on Friday, February 7th, tickets will ONLY be sold for the Friday Stairway CHOIR concert, and on Tuesday, February 11th, tickets will ONLY be sold for Thursday's Stairway BAND concert. Likewise, on Thursday, February 13th, tickets will ONLY be sold for Thursday's Stairway ORCHESTRA concert. Ticket price is $15.00 each, cash or check only at the box office.
