Merrimans' Playhouse Jazz Performance Series presents The Larry Brown Group

Young, Fiery, and Swingin' are words associate with the Chicago based Larry Brown Group. This ensemble features bassist Michael Lough, who even at a young age as performed with Chicago Jazz Philharmonic to Dee Alexander; Collin Clauson, a NIU jazz Alumni who is first call jazz and r&b pianist. Explosive drummer and Exodus Cymbal Endorsee Alfonzo Jones, vocalist Brecan Bland whose voice is reminiscent of styles ranging from Ella Fitzgerald to Erykah Badu and their band leader, Larry Brown Jr., who has been paving his way to success as a musician, performer, educator. His debut album entitled "There Can Only Be One" is comprised of music that is fresh, innovative and captures the hearts of all music lovers, Brown's mission is to present world-class performances that entertain and inspire.

The players in this band have individually played with the elite in jazz from Orbert Davis to Wynton Marsalis. Formed in 2009 the group has performed throughout the Midwest (Andy's Jazz Club Chicago, Trio's Jazz Club South Bend, Sheldon Concert Hall St. Louis) as well as abroad (BeatNIQ Alberta, Canada).

The Group is currently work of Larry Brown Jr.'s Sophomore album being released in 2014. The group's goal is to move progressively forward by deepening their roots in tradition while reaching for new horizons.
