oh my god, my body, my ears!
"oh my god! my body! my ears!" is a 10-hour marathon concert of new music written by composers after the mid 20th century. The show will start with a minimalist classic, IN C, written by Terry Riley in 1964. This piece consists of 53 short phrases, which may be played any number of times (in order) by any number of players (35 is ideal). The result is usually a piece 40-60 minutes long. It is a beautiful, haunting piece which meanders through key centers closely related to C major. The next 9 hours will be filled with piano solos, bombastic pieces for stereo speakers, flute and clarinet madness, with influences ranging from African drumming, to the hum of a refrigerator.
Performers from across the valley will meet with music from composers from around the globe for the sake of presenting a full-bodied program of in-your-face music.
