Knox Brass Ensemble (U.S. Debut) with Fred Mills, Guest Trumpet Soloist
Made up of 11 of the top studio & gigging brass players in Hollywood, the Knox Brass Ensemble showcases its talented members' virtuosity and versatility of style.  Drawing from great brass traditions such as Philip Jones and the German Brass, the Knox Brass seeks to create a uniquely authentic musical experience for its audience.

W. Fred Mills was born in Guelph, Ontario, Canada and began his brass studies on a cornet purchased from a traveling salesman. He studied at The Juilliard School in New York City and went on to play with the American Symphony Orchestra, Symphony of the Air, New York City Ballet Orchestra, Musica Aeterna Orchestra of the Metropolitan Museum, and the New York City Opera Orchestra.

A founding member of the Canadian Brass Quintet, Mills spent 24 years with the group, touring and recording over 40 albums during that time.  In 1996 he joined The University of Georgia School of Music brass faculty as professor of trumpet and brass chamber music.  He remains active in faculty and student brass chamber ensembles at UGA as performer, arranger, and coach, and continues to travel the world performing, directing, and promoting brass music.

Ensemble director Knox Summerour is a film composer, trumpeter, and vocalist based in LA.  Most recently his trumpet work has been heard on the CW Network TV show "Valentine" (2008), and Bernie Mac's 2008 pilot "Starting Under." Knox has performed with the Clare Fischer Big Band and the Stan Kenton Orchestra.  He is a graduate of Berklee College of Music, and holds a Masters in music from the University of Georgia, where he studed with Fred Mills.
