The Morning Star: Bach's Christmas
More than a concert, this presentation explores the sounds and stories of J.S. Bach's Christmases. We will hear the great Advent chorales Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland and Wie schön leuchtet die Morgenstern in many guises and disguises, culminating in Bach's magnificent Cantata No. 61, which is based on these tunes. This program invites the listener to connect with Bach's music by finding common ground in the wonderment, joy, and peace which it strives to communicateeven if theological common ground cannot be found. This presentation will feature chorale-singing in English (with audience participation encouraged) and organ works performed on Church of Our Saviour's new Hook & Hastings organ.
