The Permaculture Classroom with Michael Becker
Michael Becker shares an inspirational success story of integrating permaculture into mainstream education.
He acknowledges that we dont need a new curriculum, just a new delivery system for the curriculum, and permaculture is perfect to update education into the post-modern era.
By engaging students in applying math, science and the arts into on the ground projects which turned his school grounds into an exciting learning center, Michael Becker found the kids not only learned the information, but they had more fun doing so. Join Michael in this informative and interactive session to learn how to transform education from a transmissive to a transformative experience. A wonderful and inspirational resource for anyone who is teaching in the mainstream elementary, middle or high school level and for anyone who is inspired to share Permaculture in a creative way with their friends, families, communities and with anyone of any age. Michael Becker is a teacher at Hood River Middle School in Oregon.
Bringing enjoyment to education helped students learn through doing and through applying concepts normally taught on a chalk board into actual hands on experience.
Now the school grounds has an amazing greenhouse equipt with aquaponics set up, many learning gardens and a micro-farm.
For this work Michael Becker became Middle School Teacher in the USA in 2008.
