Growers' CD Release Party
Assembled in Bellingham, Washington, The Growers began when guitarist and lead vocalist Mike Preuss and bassist Richard Reeves, both students at Western Washington University, met and began collaborating as a duo. The beginning of 2004 welcomed the addition of Aaron Guest, a classically trained pianist and accomplished guitarist, who taught himself to play drums at Preuss' request, adding the integral percussive element to an evolving soulful funk sound.

Thus the Growers emerged as a trio and began playing locally at well attended, some would say legendary, house shows inside the garage of Reeves and Guests home. It was during this time that The Growers released their first self-titled demo recording. Growing from a grassroots Bellingham fan base, the Growers moved on from house parties to perform in Bellinghams most established music venues, such as the Wild Buffalo and the Night Light, performing alongside an array of leading Pacific Northwest bands, including Patient Patient, Yogoman Burning band and Acorn Project.

The summer of 2007 took The Growers on the road for their first full-scale tour, where they performed with The Badd Dog Blues Society while touring extensively throughout Southeast Alaska, and down the Washington and Oregon coasts. Upon The Growers return to Bellingham, the band released their first live album, Live in Alaska, recorded while on tour. However, it has been the release of The Growers first full-length studio recorded album, To The Threads, that has truly elevated The Growers to the status of a talented and serious rock band.

Recorded in just two days at NoScripts studios in Seattle, To the Threads fully blends Pruesss earnest, Neil Young-esque lyrics and understated yet complex guitar riffs, alongside Reeves thick funk infused bass lines and Guests tactful drumming. The band celebrated the release of To the Threads with a sold out show at The Wild Buffalo in early February, and most recently was featured on the record label Murder Mountains The Microscope Experiment DVD release, which showcased 13 of Bellinghams best bands.

Off their debut album, the singles To the Threads and Cold Heart are perfect samples of the Growers reggae meets rock meets indie-pop approach and have received noticeable playtime on KUGS 89.3 and 'The Mountain' 103.7. Instrumental tracks such as Burnt Loaf also fully demonstrate The Growerss versatility and refined musicianship. The Growers are planning their second tour of the North West region, scheduled to start late June after the trios graduation from WWU.
