Nourishing Togetherness - Mindful Artists Network
Calling all creative practitioners! If you are a musician, filmmaker, performer, dancer, writer, poet, storyteller, visual artist, photographer, arts therapist, arts educator, crafts person... please join us for a session of mindfulness practice and sharing. This is an evening to meet and get to know each other across continents, enjoy the fruits of our creative practice and strengthen our growing community of mindful artists/creatives.
We will start with a tea meditation - bring a hot drink and a treat! Then the floor will be open for sharings, short performances and presentations of up to five minutes. You are invited to contribute if you wish - a song, piece of music, poem, some artwork or photography - either your own or something that has inspired you. Or just introduce yourself and what you do creatively, maybe showing some examples. Or just sit back, relax and enjoy.
Our MC will be singer/songwriter and longterm mindfulness practitioner Joe Holtaway - he will not only bring his warm energy, but also his guitar and for sure a song or two. Joe's songs and playing are inspired by a folk music upbringing and involvements in peace and social justice movements. Following a year's residency at Thích Nht Hnh's centre Plum Village, Joe spent two years travelling, journaling, song writing and singing with community groups at retreats, protest camps and demonstrations, with organisations including Friends of the Earth and the Quakers. Joe has also for many years been involved with education as a group singing facilitator. Joe's online journal and album More The Love That's Given (2020) share many of these experiences - www.joeholtaway.com
Hosted by Susanne Olbrich who is a pianist, music educator and mindfulness teacher. Susanne has an ongoing fascination with exploring mindfulness and music alongside one another, and she is passionate about sharing mindfulness practice with other musicians. She recently completed a Master's in Mindfulness with the University of Aberdeen, the subject of her thesis was "Mindfulness and Musical Creativity". www.susanneolbrich.net
