The 70s. A Secret Police Major wants to "buy" a seemingly gullible priest, Zieja, and turn him into an agent who can discredit the governments opposition. The priest's interrogations become a journey through the history of Poland in the twentieth century: from the Bolshevik war of 1920, through World War II, up to modern times. The seemingly naive Father Zieja is revealed to actually be a clever rebel. The world he lived in was unacceptable to him because he was ahead of his time. In the 1930s, a lonely journey to Rome without a passport turned into thoughts of a European Union. Performing the Catholic funeral rites of a woman who had committed suicide during the 1920s was a protest against the church's rules. Proclaiming the slogan "never kill anyone, not even your enemies" during the Second World War was protest against patriotic mythologies and foretold future pacifist attitudes. Zieja puts his life and freedom always in the name of the moral, ethical, and religious values in which he believed.

Lata 70. Wyprzedza swoja epoke. Samotna wdrówka bez paszportu do Rzymu w latach 30. byla mysleniem o Unii Europejskiej. Udzielenie katolickiego pogrzebu samobójczyni (w latach 20. ubiegego wieku) to sprzeciw wobec koscielnych regul. Gloszenie hasla "nigdy nie zabijaj nikogo, nawet swoich wrogów" w czasie II wojny swiatowej bylo sprzeciwem wobec mitów patriotycznych i zapowiadalo modne póniej postawy pacyfistyczne. Zieja stawial na szali swoje zycie i wolnosc w imie wyznawanych wartosci moralnych, etycznych i religijnych.
