Someone Somewhere is a tragicomedy set in the true Hollywood where the only spotlight is a malfunctioning streetlight, and the people least likely to make it are the most likely to give everything they got for a chance to get a shot.
Director Biography - Hannu Aukia is an award winning Finnish filmmaker, who started his career in music videos - first with his own band Pilsator. He started with stop motion animation, but moved quickly to more traditional filmmaking. His love of animation is still there, even though his style is now almost cinema verite.
Aukia now lives in Los Angeles, directing and producing commercials with his production company No-Office together with his cousin Jaakko Manninen, producer of the film Someone Somewhere.
Someone Somewhere is his first film and a love letter for his adopted home.
Director Statement I wanted to make a film that would redefine what success is. Success is being where you want to be. I wanted to show that its ok to try hard, and that its ok to give up if you realize that you are not enjoying what you do.
Thats why in the end, after many failures, success can mean giving up. So its not merely about Hollywood, but something we all share no matter where we are. Everybody dreams of something. Some of us just dream of things that are really really hard to get.
The film was shot around a few blocks in Hollywood where we cast talent who could tell their own real life stories adapted to fit the overall arch of the film. So in that sense film really tells a true story just adapted and heightened.
Someone Somewhere is ultimately a love letter to Los Angeles and its people. Most of us are transplants here, and having given up our friends and family, we need to find and create a new one. Its a lot easier if you dont believe that success is your only option.
