There will be funk,soul,r&b and rock happening at the Lizard Lounge on the first Thursday of Oct. Jen Kearney is pulling out all the stops. The lineup for the night is: Peter MacLean, Aaron Bellamy, Amy Bellamy, Mark Mullins, James Calandrella, Kit Holliday, Yahuba Jose Garcia-Torres, and Jason Yost. Exciting new band Kong will be starting the night off. We hope to see you there!
Jen Kearney's lyrically driven songs are delivered sometimes by Jen as a solo artist and sometimes with a powerhouse rhythm section, lead guitar and horn section. Musically, the songs range in style from funk to soul; latin to rock. Jen's voice and songwriting style has been compared to 70's era Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, The Brand New Heavies, Santana, Joss Stone, Nikka Costa, but her style is her certainly her own. Jen and the band are tough to pigeonhole into a genre and they like it that way. With a long string of gigs behind them, this well seasoned group of musicians continues to evolve and grow in musical prowess. Collectively, they have been lucky enough to tour the country a bit and share the stage with national acts including: The Derek Trucks Band, Los Lobos, Daryl Hall, Mavis Staples, Lettuce, Soulive, Chaka Khan. The band has been working hard in the studio lately and will be releasing a full-length album in 2013.
KONG is a five-piece funky jam band from Boston, Massachusetts consisting of bass, guitar, percussion, keys and drums.
Rooted in the hard funk grooves of the last three decades, their sound is armed with electro thunderfunk, tight percussive rhythms and a diverse touch of world beat.
Not afraid to melt your face with high-energy jams (think Band Of Gypsies meets Santana on steroids), they break it down with a touch of M.J., Maze or Roy Ayers. KONG strives to move the crowd and push the limits! They are committed to bringing 110% to every show.
KONG brings true THUNDERFUNK which is genetically engineered to plaster the walls of your ears with visual groove product placement. These five musicians from diverse backgrounds come together to bring back the feeling of your first head nod.
The band reached a milestone in April 2011 when they played their first festival gig at The Rock N' Roll Resort in Kerhonkson, NY. They brought so much thunderfunk that they were voted Fan Favorite-Best New Band!
