Yamantaka // Sonic Titan
Founded in early 2008 by performance artists alaskaB and Ruby Kato Attwood, Yamantaka // Sonic Titan are a psychedelic noh-wave opera group fusing noise, Buddhist Ritual punk, metal, prog, pop and folk music into a multidisciplinary hyper-orientalist cesspool of 'eastern' culture in giant monochrome paper sets. Working in multiple mediums including installation, theater, music and design, Montreal-and-Toronto-based YT//ST negotiate cultural clashes between dominant cultures and those whose traditions are oppressed, erased or being eclipsed. Conceptually ambitious, full of raw power and 100% guaranteed you've never seen something quite like it.
