The Verdi Chorus takes special pride in announcing our fall concerts in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of our namesake and guiding spirit Giuseppe Verdi. The program for this pair of gala performances will be dedicated solely to his works and will include scenes and arias from his masterpieces Il Trovatore, La Traviata, Otello, and the Triumphal Scene from Act II of Aïda.
Guided by Artistic Director Anne Marie Ketchum, our gifted guest soloists and the Chorus promise to make these performances among the most exciting in our 30 years of presenting opera for audiences in Southern California.
A very fine quartet of singers has been engaged for this gala occasion. The Chorus is thrilled to welcome back Soprano Shana Blake Hill and Baritone Roberto Perlas Gómez. We are also very pleased to present Tenor Benjamin Bongers and Mezzo-Soprano Nandani Sinha in their debut performances with the Verdi Chorus.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 16, 7:30pm, and Sunday, November 17, 4:00pm, so you don't miss this exciting musical event, and join us in celebrating the birth of the greatest operatic composer in history. Following each of the concerts, everyone is invited to a special birthday party honoring Maestro Verdi with special guest host Alan Chapman.
Priority seating is available for $40, general admission is $30, seniors are $25, and students (25 and under with a valid ID) are $10. More information is available at www.verdichorus.org.
Our Musicologist, Aurelio de la Vega, has written an essay entitled The Eternal Verdi especially for this birthday celebration year and our concerts. Please click here to read about the life of Giuseppe Verdi.
We perform in the acoustically magnificent First United Methodist Church, 1008 11th Street, Santa Monica. Free parking is available directly across the street. We look forward to seeing you there to help us honor this important milestone in the history of opera and the Verdi Chorus. Viva Verdi!
