Epic Tales: The Lord of the Rings & More
On Sunday, January 26, 2014, the Lone Star Wind Orchestra will tell tall tales and take you on a journey of epic proportions. Led by Music Director Eugene Migliaro Corporon, the LSWO brings mighty waterfalls, the majesty of ascending a great mountain, and the one ring to the Meyerson Symphony Center stage at 7:30 p.m. Featuring Lay Family Organ 'resident organist' Mary Preston, the LSWO performs Michael Daugherty's "Niagara Falls" and John Mackey's "The Frozen Cathedral."
The Lone Star Wind Orchestra is also honored to welcome actor and founder of Dallas' own Undermain Theatre, Bruce DuBose. DuBose will don Middle Earth robes to play Gandalf and narrate script from Tolkien's famous books during movements from Johan De Meij's Symphony No. 1 "The Lord of the Rings."
Other works on the program include "Ecstatic Fanfare" by Steven Bryant, John Williams' "The Raiders March," and a world premiere by Texas-based composer Ryan George.
Additional Concert Notes: John Mackey's newest work "The Frozen Cathedral" was originally conceived with the grand sounds of an organ, but was removed by the world premiere this past March. John Mackey will add the organ back into the piece for this Lone Star Wind Orchestra performance and the LSWO will give the first performance of "The Frozen Cathedral" with the added organ part.
